The Government is planning to issue a Gazette notification to declare Railway services as an essential, according to State Minister of Transport Asoka Abeysinghe.
Railway Trade Unions ended their 48-hour strike last Sunday and decided to hold a token strike every Thursday until the authorities provide a proper solution to their demands.
However, the Transport Ministry has decided to recruit retired locomotive drivers, station masters, railway guards, train controllers, and railway supervisors to operate railway services if the officials fail to report to work.
The ministry will be organizing a special program at Shalika Grounds, Narahenpita at 9 AM on Friday (June 28) to get the retired officials recruited to Sri Lana Railways.
