Sri Lanka Railways is planning to operate a “Heritage” train consisting of four wooden coaches between Kandy and Ella railway stations. These 4 coaches will be made out of wood with a steel frame structure.
Chief Engineer Mechanical and Project Director of Sri Lanka Railways, Keerthi Hewavitharana said the train service will be available only for foreign tourists.
Needed wooden coaches are being constructed at the railway workshop no 24 in Ratmalana by Sri Lanka Railways workshop staff.
